Great Expectations #1: Children in Victorian England

Great Expectations...we all have them.  However, the lower class in Victorian England might as well not have expected anything, great or small.  Lower class life was truly vile; the exact opposite of the aristocracy.  In fact, the life expectancy in lower class London was no more than 20 years old!



Before diving into  Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens, let's find out more about the life and conditions in Victorian England.  First, let's look at the lives of children.
