To Kill a Mockingbird #1: Pre Reading – Creative Writing

We’ve all been there.  Either we’re the older sibling with a little brother or sister who always wants to tag along or we’re the younger sibling who wants to hang out with our older brother or sister who acts like we’re a pest.  Or, maybe you have friends in a similar situation.  In any case, it can be a difficult situation.

Creative Writing:  Assume the role of either the older twelve-year-old brother or the younger eight-year-old sister in one of the following situations:
  • Older brother wants to go to a video arcade with his friends; little sister wants to go also, but he doesn't want her to tag along.
  • Younger sister wants to go next door to play with neighbors, but older brother has instructions from their parents for both of them to stay in the house until their parents get home.
  • Younger sister enjoys outdoor activities and sports more than playing dolls; older brother recognizes her athletic skills but teases her about being a tomboy.
Write at least a one-page dialog of the situation.  Please remember to include the conflict and the resolution.  When completed, place it in your To Kill a Mockingbird (TKM) project portfolio.
